CERTAINLY NOT JUST A BOX OF TRICKS! SAM TRICKETT WINS PARTYPOKER.COM WORLD OPEN VI

September 13, 2010

London – 13th September 2010 – 24-year-old UK professional Sam Trickett scooped $200,000 and the PartyPoker.com World Open VI title as the event drew to a close at The Palm Beach Casino in London on Friday. On an all star final table, Trickett impressed with a top notch performance that eventually saw him overcome Yevgeniy Timoshenko heads-up to take down first prize.

Trickett, who has made a big impression on the world circuit in 2010 with big cashes at the EPT and WSOP, was relieved to have finally ended up with a title. “To finally win a big tournament is brilliant,” he said. “It is great to hear people saying congratulations rather than commiserations,” said a clearly ecstatic Trickett. “After doubling up very early I felt I was always in control but had a feeling that if I got heads-up it would be against Yevgeniy Timoshenko.”

“It has been an amazing year for English poker players, I am glad to have joined the likes of Toby Lewis and Jake Cody in tasting big success,” he added.

One person who was particularly impressed with Trickett was PartyPoker.com Ambassador Mike Sexton, who joined Jesse May and former champion Phil Laak in the commentary box for the final. “To get to the final I didn’t think he could play better poker,” said Mike. “In the final I think he topped his performance in the heat. To put it quite simply he is a remarkable poker player. It was a treat – a superstar is born.”

The final table of the PartyPoker.com World Open VI also featured EPT Vilamoura champion Toby Lewis, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, John Duthie, Dale Hoy, Juha Helppi and Andrew Robl. Full details on how it all played out and payouts can be found at: http://www.partypoker.com/blog/featured/world-open-vi-final-live-update.html. The PartyPoker.com World Open VI was produced by Matchroom Sport. Coverage of the event will be presented by Team PartyPoker.com’s Kara Scott and will be first broadcast in the UK later this year and then distributed internationally.

JUSTIN ‘BOOSTEDJ’ SMITH WINS EPIC WPT LONDON HIGHROLLERS TONY G’S CHANCES GO UP IN SMOKE!

September 7, 2010

London – 7th September 2010 – Online sensation Justin ‘BoostedJ’ Smith won the inaugural £15,000 WPT London Poker Classic High Roller event at the Palm Beach Casino, Mayfair in the very early hours of Monday morning. After over 12 hours of action and eight and a half hours of eight handed play, the 22-year-old from Los Angeles eventually beat Tony G heads-up to win £141,000 and the title.

In one of the longest final tables in WPT history, Smith finally finished top of the pile after finishing second and third in WPT Bellagio Cups in the last two years. “It is brilliant to finally get a first place on the WPT after my near misses at the Bellagio, “ said Smith. “This was quite some battle – the line-up was so tough. I am satisfied but completely exhausted!”

The runner-up was Tony G, who was very disappointed to not take it down. “For me it wasn’t about the money it was about the pride of taking first place but what will be will be,” said Tony. “I needed plenty of heart and commitment to stay at the table that long but luckily my Egyptian friends had a sisha pipe waiting for me around the corner for every break. It’s a shame my chances of winning went up in smoke.”

The final table of the event was a star studded occasion and four handed the players had a total of over $15 million in tournament winnings between them. The unfortunate bubble boy was Bruno Fitoussi, while the recent winner of the WPT High Roller in Paris Freddy Deeb finished third.

Full details on all the action and payouts can be found at: http://www.partypoker.com/blog/featured/wpt-london-high-roller-event.html

22-year-old UK wonderkid Jake Cody won the inaugural WPT London Poker Classic Main Event. Cody, from Rochdale, was mobbed by friends and picked up his first WPT title and a cheque for £273,783. Cody is now two thirds of the way to securing a triple crown after also winning EPT Deauville earlier this year. Cody’s victory also saved tournament sponsors http://www.partypoker.com/ from paying out an extra $1 million bonus on top of the prize money as 21-year-old Swedish online qualifier Kristoffer Thorsson stood to win an extra $500,000 for himself and an extra $500,000 for his fellow online qualifiers if he finished first!
