BIGGEST ROMANIAN POKER EVENT EVER IS UNDERWAY! WPT BUCHAREST ATTRACTS TOP LINE UP THE MATADOR HAS HIS FANGS ON WPT PLAYER OF THE YEAR TITLE!

Bucharest – Romania – 29th March 2010 – The first ever http://www.worldpokertour.com/ event is underway in Romania! The WPT Bucharest, sponsored by https://www.gamebookers.com/, is taking place at the Novotel Bucharest City Centre Hotel. There are a total of 161 players taking part in the €3000 + €300 Main Event, with first prize taking home €125,846. The event runs until April 2nd and pays 18 places with a total prize pool of €449,450.

Sorin Constantinescu, Regent Casino CEO and organizer of the tournament said: “This is a historic first for poker in Romania and we are very proud to be hosting the biggest poker event to take place in this country. The line-up is fantastic with a strong local presence and it is also great to have some of the biggest names in poker here too. Regent Casino has made all the arrangements to ensure that WPT Bucharest is a poker tournament of world class standards. Amongst the players taking part include recent WPT Hollywood Poker Open champion Carlos Mortensen, Sorel Mizzi,  Pascal Perrault, Praz Bansi, Team http://www.partypoker.com/ pro Dragan Galic, Casey Kastle, EPT Snowfest final tablists Russell Carson and Alain Medesan, 2009 WPT Championship runner-up Ran Azor and France‘s Nicolas Levi. The local charge is led by Cristian Dragomir, Cristian Dumitrescu and Mihai Manole.

Carlos Mortensen’s recent WPT Hollywood Poker Open win was a landmark for many reasons. First, it marked his third career WPT title, tying him with Gus Hansen for the most WPT wins by an individual. Secondly, his $393,820 victory pushed him past Daniel Negreanu on the all-time WPT money earners list. With over $5.75 million in WPT winnings to his credit, Mortensen is now the top earner in WPT history. It also puts him firmly in the running for the WPT Player of the Year title.

At the start of play, Carlos, known as ‘The Matador‘ donned fangs as he became Count Dracula of Transylvania for the start of his Romanian experience (see picture attached). Carlos continues to break poker records and is the only player who has taken down the WSOP Main Event and WPT Championship. “I was always going to come to Bucharest but now it is even more important as I want to make progress in the race for the WPT player of the year title. I am here to win,“ said Carlos as he sunk his fangs into another monster pot.
