FINAL TABLE SET AT PARTYPOKER.COM IPC POKER FOR THE HOMELESS CHARITY EVENT TONIGHT
Galway – 4th January 2009 – The final table is set at the first major tournament of 2009, the €2,000 buy-in (9% withheld) PartyPoker.com Irish Poker Championship http://www.partypokeripc.com/, and is now underway. The event, which takes place at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Galway, attracted 255 runners. Coverage of the main event will be televised on RTÉ and then distributed internationally. The event is organized by Pokerevents.ie, with the coverage produced by Winmedia Ireland Ltd. Live reporting of the event can be found at: http://www.partypokeripc.com
Chip leader at the final table is 23-year-old Rory Brennan from Dublin, with Ireland providing five representatives, two from England and one from Poland. Brennan and his pal, recent Poker Million runner-up Eoghan O’Dea, have been young Irish sensations tearing up the online tables in recent months and he is strongly supported at the lively venue. The €750 event has just concluded and was won by David ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, with Surinder Sunar runner-up.
Also about to start is special charity event ‘Poker for the Homeless.’ The €330 event sees €100 from each buy-in go directly to charity. Previous winners of the event include former world champion Noel Furlong and Waterford man Pat Storan. Poker for the Homeless, formerly known as Simon Poker Day, is a charity collective in Ireland raising money for a variety of homeless charities including Simon Community and Brother Kevin of the Capuchin Day Centre. Over three years and two events more than €100,000 has been raised and donated to these charities.
One player taking part is Mike Sexton who said: “Padraig Parkinson and all those who extend a hand to help the unfortunate should take a bow and be proud of their willingness to help others. Fortunately, many poker players are joining in and giving time and money to worthwhile charities.”
