Dezember 10, 2008

Gibraltar – 8th December 2008 – Coverage from the PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open II starts its run on Five in the UK at 00.05 on Wednesday 10th December/Thursday 11the December. The action will be distributed internationally in 2009.

The PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open II sees 36 players from all over the world battle it out for a share of a $108,000 prize-fund. The buy-in for the tournament is set at $3,000, with the eventual winner taking home a cool $50,000. Players to look out for include Erica Schoenberg, Jen Mason, Late Night Poker finalist Maria Demetriou, Xuyen “Bad Girl” Pham, former PartyPoker.com World Open winner Pippa Flanders, former European Ladies champion Jackie Meecham, Katharine Hartree, Spanish sensation May Macerias, comedienne Lucy Porter, Michelle Orpe, Shelley Rubenstein, Bucks Fizz’s Cheryl Baker, Mel Lofthouse, Christine Klecz and Stefanie Bergener.

Also taking her place at the table, and returning to defend her title, is last year’s champion Bev Pace. Bev, from Bromley, Kent, UK, is the wife of comedian and poker player Norman Pace. She triumphed over an in-form Jen Mason heads-up to scoop $50,000. After a number of swings Pace’s pocket sixes held-up all-in against Mason’s AJ off-suit.

Women only tournaments are a hotly debated topic in the poker world but Pace defended them after taking the inaugural title in 2007.

“Women’s tournaments are good for getting more ladies interested in poker,” said Pace. “The standard is no different to a mixed sex game but they do encourage some to come forward who wouldn’t do otherwise.”

Eddie Hearn, Director of event organizers Matchroom Sport said: “The PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open was a big hit last year and we’re delighted to see it coming back. It is one of the most popular events in the eyes of international broadcasters.”
